i haven't bothered to read this thread, so who knows if this has already been mentioned before, but i tend to find that second chapters (or first chapters, if there's a prologue) never get as much reviews as first chapters (or prologues) do. i feel that people review the first chapter to let the author know that they're interested, which makes the reader feeling happy that people are actually wanting more and that will lead to more updates. to me, that's kinda dumb, but that's just something i've noticed. because you can guarantee that all my fics have a significant drop between first and second update. as time goes on, however, it should start to pick up again as you gain more readers! Oh yeah the curse of the prologue/first chapter... Hi leesh. |

That is so true...I just harass Sam and Heather all the time, but it works...plus Lacee and Sara are quite supportive too, helps a great deal. 5Sos is still quite small, your update won't be on page five after a few hours, it's nice here. So yes, you don't just get tons of reviews, but here it's actually possible to build a connection with the readers, something I missed greatly on bigger sites. |

The only fic of mine that has really happened to this far is Terra Nullius, but that story is so crazy that I can understand why it would be that way.
But I have noticed that a lot for many stories on the site and I too believe that it's basically just readers wanting to let you know that they're interested despite maybe not having much time to read or, on the flip side, people not wanting to get attached if it doesn't last.
Or you have authors like me who few people give their attention to but when they do it's very steady and undivided.
(Or, you know, my friends are my readers, basically LOL)

I agree I think light-hearted are the ones that people review more, oh and apparently smut helps...but yeah, most of my stories have what, three chapters, so I only started out, I'll give it some time! |
