I honestly couldn't have said what you all have been saying any better. YES YES YES! I think that people sometimes think that their reviews really don't mean that much but trust us they totally do! Whenever I get a review, it truly does make my day and I get that even for myself I'll read a story and be like wow this is great and not leave a review (guilty as charged) but oftentimes I do try to leave one just because I hope that maybe they'll reciprocate the favor but mostly just because I know how much it will mean! What if authors could decide like top reviewers could help them with a chapter, or you could write them into the story somehow or idk just something to motivate people to review! I've been lucky enough to have amazing reviewers on a lot of my story but when I first started out I definitely felt a little discouraged and like people have said - 120 people read a chapter and 117 choose not to say anything? Sadness I tell you! Shoutout to hufflspuff for creating this awesome thread because lets get reviews back up for stories that people work super hard on!! Sorry for my rant! Eva eva remember when you joined the site and asked me for advice and such? omg that was so long ago and i don't understand to this day why you asked me of all people but OMG idk where I was going with this but whatever ily and to everyone who's said something here, you all have really great ideas and I'm so glad you have shared your ideas and experiences with me/us, keep them coming! I'm loving this, thank you so much! xx heather I totally remember that and woah that was so long ago thats crazy! I definitely thought you were the bomb diggity (still do!) and like thx for ur awesome advice because look whose still here - me!

First and foremost, I want to thank all of you for your contributions to this discussion! It's great to hear from all of you and know where you stand with all of this. Between this thread and tumblr, I've got more than a page in word on things that we can work on to improve the activity on this site, most of which will take a long time to accomplish and sort out to make something of. However, it's a great start and I'm so stoked that you're all taking this as seriously as you are. It means a lot to see people being as passionate about this site as I am, so thank you!
Also, there's something I've been thinking about, and because it's one in the morning and I haven't slept properly in three days, I'm going to share another thought with you guys just to show you how simple this all really can be. (I am so, so sorry in advance. I'm probably going to regret posting this tomorrow, honestly)
I want you to go to your settings on the 5sosff website and look at your stats. Somewhere that you can find it for later (save it in a doc, put it in the notes on your phone, on a piece of paper in your room, whatever works for you), I want you to write down the number of reviews you've left so far and the date. For the next week, I want you to try to review everything you read. Everything. I want you to think about how much you're giving to the author of the stories you're leaving a review for. A boost of confidence, a smile, the motivation to continue something they love writing. Think of what you feel when someone leaves a really nice review for something you've worked hard on. At the end of the week, I want you to look at your stats again, write down the new number of reviews you've left, compare the numbers.
If you do this, I don't want to know your numbers. It's not my business. I know that people are busy and it can be hard to sit down and read five chapters of a story, even in a span of a week. But, say you're laying in bed winding down for the day, and you have your phone in hand or your laptop next to your bed, and you have ten minutes to spare. Find that story you've been telling yourself you're going to start reading, and read a chapter. Leave a review.
Okay, say you leave two reviews a day for one week. That's 14 reviews. 14 separate times you put a smile on someone's face or helped them start on that next chapter they've been putting off for too long. It's something that I used to do month to month, and it made me realize just how important a single review can be. Imagine what you could accomplish if you did this for an entire month. Imagine if we all did. Think of the IMPACT that could have on this site.
It's the little things that make a big impact, guys.
(and yes, I'm lame and tired and probably not making ANY sense whatsoever. plus i'm just like, naturally overly sentimental and lame, so I'm just going to try to go to sleep now. goodnight)

hey so i know this thread has died down a little but i just wanted to take a moment to write something!
i was away this weekend for a few days with absolutely no internet, so when i came back home i turned my laptop on and logged in to the site i was completely amazed. there was 22 new updated stories?! 22?! over the space of 3-4 days! thats amazing! i remember sometimes refreshing the page to see there was no new updates and when i wanted to read something it was just the worst, but now i can feel a real sense of people uploading stories with enthusiasm, and people wanting to review and tell people how much they love something they read!
way to go guys, im so proud of us all!
love, gem xx

you're all amazing and this is such a good thread filled with amazing ideas and just positive vibes. I know personally i've been updating a bit more but i did lay off for the same reasons as everyone else.... it's just more fun when you feel like you're not talking to yourself, ya know?
anywho! happy writing everyone and remember a few simple sweet words goes a long, long way!
xx

I wanted to bring this back because I know I have been guilty of slacking on the reviewing lately, but it's so important guys! Even if it's a quick "Love this! Keep it up!" or "Wow, that was great!" it means so much. I know school's starting back for people, myself included (a girl's gotta earn her bachelor's degree), but let's keep this at the forefront of our minds.
It's important that we're cheering each other on and keeping one another going so let's all work on it and make it our mission to leave some more reviews for our lovely authors!!

I've been slacking on the reading fml in my defence I've been on the earlies in work so I'm getting up at 5am and working 8-6 and I collapse in front of the TV when I get home and my brain switches itself off! but there are so many amazing sounding fics that I want to read/finish reading and the list keeps getting longer and loNGER so if everyone could wait for me to catch up that would be great
