Hi guys
So I like to write and I guess that kind of makes me an author (weird as that sounds). I know there's a lot more of you word lovers mingling around here that must have some of the same problems as me. My worst problem, on the verge of becoming a disorder, is that I don't have the courage to go to someone I know personally for help in my writing. When I get stuck there's no one to help me, and I often wish I could talk to someone about it. Writing feels lonely when you can't speak about it.
So I thought we could do something generous and help each other by sharing the things we know. So ask for help from people who will listen with kind ears and post your questions here!
My first question is: When creating a character, what questions do you ask yourself to make sure you're doing a thorough job of characterization? How do you make sure your characters are alive?

Well, what I've been doing recently is making a list of what I want to have the question like: where do they live? what makes them special? I usually make the whole backstory before I want to see how the character will advance throughout the story. Will they get their heartbroken... what will they do? Will they cry and want to die or yell and scream at their cheating boyfriend, etc. Even though deepening a character, you must remember the subordinate characters as well! you don't want a friend who has no life in them!
Idk, that's all my opinion, I'm not the best writer so I don't know how much that will help!

Hi! Don't know if you're still looking for help or not, but being a "writer" myself I often find it's easier to write about my characters if I know where i'm going with them. Like I want to make sure that their as real as possible. Knowing what their favorite hobbies, food, books and who their best friends are are crucial. See cause once all of that is settled than you know how your character will react to everything you throw at them. If your character likes X-Men but hates the novel Fifty Shades of Grey, than you know they won't like things like smut fan fiction or that they'd LOVE to go and see the new Hobbit movie coming out. Figure out what your character likes and doesn't like. Literally mold them into imperfect perfection before writing the story, it's so much easier. I hope I helped lol
