Long Way Home

Vera Morreno didn't believe in fate. She was just the high school beauty queen that always got her way, even if it didn't make her happy.

Calum Hood believed in love at first sight. Too bad no one gave him the time of day, a fact he had found a way to deal with.

That is until one night when Calum was able to be Vera's knight in shining armor, rescuing her from the drunken rage of her boyfriend.

For Calum, it was love at first sight, and their long drive home was the magic he had been searching for.

For Vera, she had to run as quickly as she could from Calum, leaving him with only a soft kiss to remember her by.

Now, nearly four years later, they're both in America trying to make their dreams come true.

Can a simple song and a timid hello bring back memories and feelings strong enough to awaken even the saddest of hearts?

Or will the pain of the things they've done in the interim be too much for either of them to work past?

A story of first love, dark pasts, and realizing you always find your way home.

So I started a new fic, because I don't really have way too much on my plate anyway.  But I'm really excited about this, and although it isn't posted yet, I already have three chapters written and it's basically writing itself which is really wonderful for me.  With that being said, I would love to have some of you help me create characters for this fic!  As much fun as it is to create original characters, sometimes I find when I try to make too many at once, they all start to have the same personalities, which I don't want.

So there's four different parts to audition for, as follows.

Ashton's girlfriend
Ashton's background: He's a giant sweetheart, totally romantic.  Very much like Calum in his belief in love at first sight and such, he's just more upfront and outgoing than Calum is.  He likes to spoil his girlfriend and treat her like the princess he knows she is.  He's appears to be very confident in himself, but he has hidden demons that he tries to keep away from everyone.
Luke's love interest (not sure if it will turn into a girlfriend yet)
Luke's background: Luke is a huge partier and flirt.  He loves the attention of the opposite sex, and he loves to give attention as well.  He likes to have a good time, and get drunk a lot, even though he knows it's not that good to do around his bandmate, Calum.  Even with all his partying, he's still very trustworthy and would never hurt or betray his girlfriend in any way, even if it doesn't seem that way.
Michael's girlfriend
Michael's background: Michael is pretty much a mix between Ashton and Luke.  He's a total romantic sweetheart, yet he loves to go out and party as well.  He gets very touchy-feely when he's drunk, and has a problem keeping his hands to himself (but only when it comes to his girlfriend).  He likes to flirt, but he saves all his charm for his girlfriend, no matter how much he's had to drink.  He's also much better at keeping his drinking and partying away from Calum, compared to Luke.
Calum's best friend (who's in love with him, but doesn't tell him)
Calum's background: On top of what the summary says about Calum, he's very much like Ashton in his romantic ways, he just has no one to express them to because of how stuck on Vera he is.  He ends up falling into a deep depression that leads to drug and alcohol abuse.  The one thing that ends up saving him is his best friend.  Although he loves her more than anything for saving his life, he can never see her as more than a friend because he's so in love with a girl from his past. (Personal side note, I think Calum is going to end up being a truly beautiful character, and even though he can't see his best friend as anything more than that, he truly is going to be an amazing best friend to her, no matter what.)

Role Wanted: Michael's girlfriend

Why: Steph and Michael would get on like a house on fire because both of them love partying and they are both romantic in relationships. Plus, Stephanie loves spoiling her partners so she tends to splash out on video games, clothes and food for Michael whenever she can because all she wants is for him to be happy. When they party together she never leaves his side, unless she decides to see some friends, and makes sure he doesn't get to drunk, but if he does she's always there to take care of him in the morning, even if she feels just as bad.

Character's Full Name: Stephanie Gilbert

Personality and Backstory: Stephanie grew up with three older brothers, and they have always been protective of her, which led to Michael being shit scared of meeting them for the first time. However, the adored Michael as soon as he walked in and they trust him with their little sister's heart. Her parents divorced when she was 9 but luckily they both remarried soon after, leaving Steph with a large and supporting family. Steph's eldest brother is in the army so she doesn't see him that often whilst her other brothers are both in Uni (they're 20 year old twins), and her mum works in make up and hair for TV shows whilst her father is a lawyer. The Gilbert siblings were lucky enough to grow up in a rich household and Steph was taught from a young age that she should never be greedy about money and she isn't, but does often go overboard with birthday and Christmas presents (especially for Michael). Michael and her met two years prior at a house party, where they were both dared to kiss each other in spin the bottle. After that they got talking and stayed up on the roof till dawn talking about their backgrounds and families and random stories from their childhood. After that Michael invited her out for coffee and they became inseparable ever since.

They first got together after a drunken make out session in her apartment and in the morning they admitted their feelings, but both agreed to take things slow. Soon their parents were asking to have them both round for dinner, which is where Michael met all three of her brothers, and the two became an item. Michael drunkenly admitted he loved Steph and when he started panicking the next day, Steph told him she loved him too. They tend to have many drunken moments together, mostly in their apartment, but love them as it always leads to heart to heart conversations and their fondest memories.

Stephanie herself is a very honest and trusting person and sticks by her friends no matter what; always giving people the benefit of the doubt. She adores her family and loves their monthly get together at her mothers house (which Michael believes is more of a mansion), where not only the Gilberts attend, but the Clifford's too, as their parents are also close friends. Steph takes great pride in her apartment and keeps it very clean (though she isn't exactly a neat freak), which is often ruined by Michael as he can sometimes be quiet messy. She has a Labrador puppy called Jet, as her favorite movie is West Side Story, and Michael adores him too. Her fashion sense if usually whatever T-shirt she can find of Michael's, or anything from Topshop, (preferably all black). She's quite tall, standing at 5"9 and has a healthy figure due to all of her brothers obsession with working out and going to the gym, which she picked up on at age 14.

The only real issues Stephanie's had to go through was when she was with her previous boyfriend, who was sex obsessed and a huge flirt. She is comfortable with sex, which Michael is definitely not complaining about, but did gain some slight trust issues after he cheated on her. But over the years she has grown to trust people again and Michael is one of them and he is one of the only people she can 100% trust with everything she has, and he has never let her down. The only flaw Steph has is occasionally drinking a little too much with her girlfriends and having to get Michael to pick her up, but she never gets told off by him because she does the same when he's had a little bit too much. She parties a bit more than Michael does but she would much rather go out with him because they always end up having so much fun and creating more memories to share in bed the next morning, nursing a hangover with a cup of tea. Overall, she's bubbly, confidant, outgoing and loyal, plus a true romantic at heart.

Distinguishing Features (if any): She has a strong jawline and full lips, plus a lot of piercings in her ear.

Age+Birthday: She's 19 and her birthday is March 4th

Likes: Playing guitar, reading, partying, drinking, sex (though she doesn't sleep around), food and her puppy Jet

Dislikes: Liars and cheats (she was once cheated on, but refused to take him back), sexism, homophobia, racism etc, and when people leave doors open - it really riles her up.

Pet Peeves: Chewing with your mouth open - worst pet peeve

Back Up Role (if any): Ashton's girlfriend

Why: Seeing as he's a romantic, Steph would fall in love with him almost instantly as she has a soft spot for roses and cliché dates. Plus seeing as he likes to spoil his girlfriend, she would spoil him just as much, even if both of them were often in need of more cash more times than they can count. She would also be very helpful in helping Ash get through difficult times in his life, as she has had friends who have gone through depression, anxiety etc, and will do whatever it takes to make him happy, comfortable and smiling again, because he's everything to her.

Personality and Backstory:
Isabella started life as an only child. Her parents divorced shortly after she was born and both remarried. Isabella spent her childhood being ferried between different homes where she was little more then an after-thought due to her 4 step sibling (2 on either side). Because of her upbringing Isabella is rather quiet. She loves books more than conversation. Isabella has a determined and independent spirit however. She tries to do everything herself. She has a slight wall between what is really going on in her head and what she lets people see. Isabella doesn't like to be weak but is open and honest to those close to her.

Distinguishing Features (if any): She has a tattoo of birds on her shoulder with the words 'One day I'm gonna grow wings'

Role Wanted: (I'm a Michael girl, but I feel she'd be better suited for Luke) Luke's love interest.

Why: He's a bit wild and doesn't care about anything or anyone, a lot like Daria. I think her gentle nature might help even him out a bit, while her wild side piques his interest and keeps the flirtationship going.

Character's Full Name: Daria Gwendolyn Rosalez

Personality and Backstory: She's a bit distant and sarcastic towards people she doesn't know. But once she sees how they act towards others and can get a feel for their personality, she opens up and is the sweetest person toward them. Her loyalty is never shaken to that person until they cross her first and her guard will always be up around them.

She loves the little things in life and appreciates them more than her family and friends. Unlike family and friends, she can always count on the little things to remain constant. Her mother left her as a child and so it's just been her and her dad for 15+ years. He's always closed off and they barely speak a word to each other, after she moved to her campus they didn't keep in touch. She misses her mother's grandparents but they died a year or two after her mother left.

When she was a freshman in high school she was burned after giving her all in the relationship. So she rarely dates or notices guys unless they talk to her first. But she's fully aware of Luke's reputation, because he reminds her of the guy that broke her heart that first year.

Distinguishing Features (if any): Thick/full lips and squishy chipmunk cheeks.

Age+Birthday: 21 and her birthday is August 31st. (She always complains because it always ends up being on a school day or when she has school the next day.)

Why: As stated above she's loyal to her friends when she gets to really know them. I feel like with her history that Calum would be good for her to help open up to people. While her honesty and straight forward attitude help Cal when he's trying to avoid accepting the truth. But she didn't really count on falling in love with him during the process. (If and when he denies her, she will cut all ties with him. But if he's persistent and continues to be there for her regardless of the lack of feelings, she will slowly come back.)
