Word count???

So I've been wondering about how much people are prepared to read when it comes to the fanfics on the fic site. I usually write quite a lot in each chapter but I also don't want people to get annoyed by how much there is to read. So what are people's word count preferences when reading a story?
1000 - 3000 
3000 - or more?
I'll be using your feedback in my stories from now on so it would be great to get a few responses!

Everything +2000 average, I guess.

Anything over 3000 tends to be a little too long for me. I don't know if it's because I don't have the attention span or what. So I guess I'd go with 1000-3000 words a chapter.

i personally love reading a lot, so 3000 doesn't seem a lot. but it seems on average on 5sosff is around 1-2 thousand. so, i'd go with the happy medium of 2000. x

Idk about 5SOSff but my pet peeve on 1DFF was when people would write like 9000 word chapters like who has time for that I'm sorry

I like reading max 5000 but more so 3000

I write 3-4k generally (altho my 5sos fic is short af)

i usually go around 2000 words which works out to about 5 pages! I think if it's super long people start to skim and it's not as enjoyed. x

Can I just, as a writer I treat the topic quite sensitive.
I know that on 1DFF many writers write huge chapters, and while many don't like it, the other half loves it.
So people tend to write more, if they wrote there.

Now about the me as a writer part. I've got a story, that is now original fiction, the chapter length is 6K+ on an average, because that's how long the chapters have to be.

On here my stories are either in the 2K or 3K range, because I plan every chapter, and once it's done, it's done.

I know I just hijacked the thread, but I just wonder how you get to your word count, like do you just write more, do you plan your chapters like me (coz then writing more could fuck with your plan)? Am just curious seeingred

I write plot summaries for each chapter and if they are really long summaries it usually sums up how long the chapter will be, but usually I try to cut down on this website because I know a lot of people won't want to read thousands and thousands of words. On 1D it's a little different and with the fic I'm planning on there I will probably write a bit more in each chapter. But I understand what you mean by that, if everything I need in a chapter fits into 2-3k then I'll stop, I won't add or take anything out

i generally never really read anything below 1000 words, i mean there'll be the odd exception but generally not and that's because i usually find that stories under 1000 words are lacking in description and a lot of other things so i avoid those. i don't really have a max on chapter length, but it depends on what mood i'm in, if i'm not in the mood to read a 10K chapter then i really won't but if i am, then i will.
